HUSKY EXPEDITION FROM THE NORTHERN BORDER OF FINLAND TO THE ARCTIC OCEAN - CAPE NORDKYN, NORWAY 

 

Accompanied by the legend of Norwegian Husky dog sledgesport Sven Engholm and Vidar the Viking. Surrounded by the wildest and most beautiful landscape of  Northern Europe.

PROGRAM

Day 1

Arrival at Kirkenes airport.
Transfer to Polmak Guesthouse at the border of Finland-Norway, community of Tana.
Welcome to the Sami district of  Norway.
Check in to authentic Sami earth cottages with high standard hotel rooms inside.
Traditional dinner - meeting the guides Sven Engholm and Vidar the Viking.
Overnight.

Day 2                         

Breakfast.
Start driving across Tana River, the physical border between Finland and Norway.
Each of participators will drive a personal dogsledge guided by Sven Engholm.
Instructions of driving and taking care of the dogs will be given during the day.
Vidar the Viking makes the trail and transports all the the food and equipments are needed, on the sledge of  his snowmobile.
Outdoor lunch.
Dinner and overnight in a mountain cottage rented from the Sami people who are keeping  their 5000 reindeers in this area during the winter.

Day 3                         

Breakfast.
Crossing one of the most extreme mountain fells of Northern Norway.
Following the reindeer paths to the coast of  the Arctic Ocean.
Enormous white planes at 500m altitude.
Outdoor lunch.
Dinner and overnight in rented cottage.

Day distance 35km

 

Day 4                         

Breakfast.
Approaching the Barents Sea...
Start to descend from highland mountains through beautiful woodcovered valleys.
Lunch in the forest.
Arrival to the winter paradise of  Vidar the Viking - Laggo.
Luxury cottage with woodfired sauna, shower and private bedrooms in romantic timber lodge.
Sauna .
Tasty dinner with seafood, direct from the Arctic Ocean.
Overnight.

Day 5 

Breakfast.
Fjord cruise with catamaran passenger ship.
The group, dogs and equipments on board.
Arrival at Skjånes harbour.
Starting today's dogsledge tour, crossing "Sandfjellet" 500m altitude. The hardest part of expeditions for both, the drivers and the dogs Panoramic views.
Lunch in the fells.
Arriving late in the evening at  mountain cottage, 10km from Mehamn.
Dinner and overnight.

Day distance 25km

 

Day 6                         

Breakfast.
Last day's attack - trying to reach Cape Nordkyn - the real northernmost point of the European continent.
Outdoor lunch.
Champagne at the very top of  Europe.
Return to the home village of  Vidar the Viking - Mehamn.
Sauna and shower.
Celebration dinner.
After dinner departure to Kirkenes with the famous Norwegian coastal  express ship,  Hurtigruten.
Overnight in private cabins onboard.

Day 7                         

Breakfast on board.
Arrival at Kirkenes harbour.
Transfer to airport.
Departure flight back home
