1/30/2011 Winter Cod Fishing

Between February & March, the Cod come in to the shallow banks outside the coast of Adventure Camp Mehamn to spoon.

We also have Halibut, Catfish, Haddock and Pollock coming into the shallow banks.

It is at this time of year that the quality of the fish is at its very best. The Cod meat is a delicious white colour, solid and has the very best taste.

You are welcome onboard our traditional 60 feet wooden fishing cutter "MK Odd Tore" that is certified for 12 persons.

Once onboard this two days Deep Sea fishing trip, you can fish for your own winter Cod and serve it fresh to family and friends when you go home after this genuine adventure at the Barents Sea.

You can also, having caught the Cod, learn how to filet it, and take it home while fresh and of the finest quality, in your flight luggage back home.

A full warm and comfortable "Fishing Suit" with "Insulated Rubber Boots" and "Rod" is included in the price.

Friday

22:45 Arrival by plane to Mehamn Airport

Your transfer to Adventure Camp Mehamn

Check in for your accommodation in high standard Fisherman's cottages.

Collect your information on the program for the next day.

Saturday

Breakfast is in our pier restaurant, with a short briefing about todays fishing.

09:00 Departure in "MK Odd Tore" to the fish grounds near Cape Nordkyn  - The Northernmost point of the European continent.

We will be fishing the whole day and enyoy hot fish soup on the deck for lunch.

In early afternoon we are setting course for the Adventure Camp. On the way home we clean the fish.

Upon arrival back at the Adventure Camp Mehamn, we bring our catch on shore to the filleting hall, where we give instructions for; cleaning and preservation for taking back home in secure Styrofoam boxes.

19:00 Dinner, in the Pier Restaurant with Fresh Cod based on todays catch, cooked in the traditional way, served with Cold Beer and  a tiny Aquavit

During the evening you can relax with maybe some stories of the ‘One that got away' over a good drink in the bar!

Sunday

0900 Breakfast again in the Pier Restaurant

10:00 Depart for the sea fishing grounds again

Lunch served on deck

Today we are testing out different fishing grounds, fishing for Cod, Halibut, shellfish, catfish, Haddock and Pollock

Again we are fishing until early afternoon, and take away some fish for today's seafood dinner.

KING CRAB FISHING

On the way back to Adventure Camp Mehamn we are setting course for the King Crab traps.

If we have good luck on our side, we might get some of these monsters of the sea, and serve them with the today's fish meal.

The King Crab pots are set at depths from 20 to 50 metres.

When we arrive at the fishing place the whole team participate in the fishing, this is normally:

Throwing the anchor to catch the King Crab Trap trap

Hauling in the cage ropes

Lifting on board the King Crab Pot

Feed and Setting out the King Crab pots again.

Once the King Crabs are onboard you can then take pictures to take back home!

The experienced Captain and guide will give you the history and biological description of this new

Monstrous King Crab in the waters of the Barents Sea.

On the way home we are cleaning and preparing the King Crab and the fish.

The catch is then brought back to the Chef at the Adventure Camp, where a delicious King Crab Buffet will be made.

Again upon arrival at the Adventure Camp, we take the catch to the fillet hall where we can make the finest filets and pack them in the flight boxes for you to take back home.

19:00 Celebration dinner based on todays catch.  King Crab and fresh Cod.

Monday

05.30 Collect your ‘Catch' and taxi to the airport

06:08 Departure for home destinations
